Brouillet Elementary School’s Candance Mikkelsen Honored as STAR 101.5’s Teacher of the Week

Puyallup, WA – On Wednesday, November 15th, morning show hosts Jen Pirak and Curt Kruse made a surprise visit to Brouillet Elementary School to honor Ms. Candace Mikkelsen as STAR 101.5’s Teacher of the Week.

Ms. Mikkelsen is a long-time 3rd grade teacher at Brouillet Elementary School in Puyallup. Along with being named STAR 101.5’s Teacher of the Week, she was presented with gifts, an award plaque, and a check for $101.5 to help pay for classroom supplies. Ms. Mikkelsen was nominated for this honor by her mother Christie Helman, who regularly volunteers in her daughter’s classroom.

Christie Nominated Ms. Mikkelsen because she consistently sees her go above and beyond for her students in and outside of school. Christie said, “When she isn’t helping them in school she goes to the functions on her own time.  She loves to be asked to go to events.  Parents ask to have their children her in class as she helps them grow so much”. Christie helps around the classroom every Wednesday and says that being able to watch her daughter teach and care for students fills her with pride.

Along with Curt & Jen, many friends and family members attended the surprise visit to Ms. Mikkelsen’s class. Her favorite thing about being a teacher is making long lasting connections with her students saying, “I’m meant to be a teacher. I help to mold my students into kind and loving citizens, and I love it when my past students say hi and give me a hug”! She also loves seeing her students learn to become more independent as the school year progresses.

Nominate your child’s teacher today!
